The Bentley driver who almost ran over a school security guard has been sentenced to eight weeks in jail and a S$600 (US$422) fine today.

Neo Hong Chye, 61, pleaded guilty to causing hurt through a rash act and to driving without insurance. He was also banned from driving for a year.

Neo was charged in May after videos caught a Bentley outside Red Swastika School inching forward into a security officer who stood in front to block the car from entering the school in January.

The court said Neo was dropping his granddaughter off at school but tried to cut in between a line of cars and was stopped by the security officer. Neo later got out and argued before returning to the car and continued to force entry.

The security officer, 62-year-old Neo Ah Whatt, suffered scraped knees and had to take time off to recuperate at home for days.

Neo’s lawyer said it was his first time sending his granddaughter to school and was not familiar with the routes. But he was “genuinely remorseful” and tried to apologize to the security officer.

Neo’s son, 28-year-old Glynn Neo Jia, was also charged in May with altering his license plate number and allowing his father to use his car without insurance. Investigations found that the Bentley belonged to the son’s motor trade business and the different license plate was used for “photoshoot purposes.”

The son’s case is still pending in court.

If found guilty of committing a rash act causing hurt, Neo could have been jailed for up to a year, with a S$5,000 fine.
