In what appeared to be a double suicide, a mother and her son were found hanged in their Tampines flat on Monday, Lianhe Wanbao reported.

The decomposing bodies of Lee Gek Lan, 66, and Toh Boon Siong, 27, were found in a locked bedroom in their flat in Block 727 along Tampines Street 71. Lee’s son-in-law was the first to discover the bodies after returning home from a three-day hospital stay following an operation.

Police were called in at 4:21pm on Monday, with paramedics at the scene pronouncing the duo dead.

A close friend of the victims informed Wanbao that Toh is understood to have suffered from severe depression, but the connection between the deaths and his condition remain unclear. Neighbours who spoke to ST noted that the family often kept to themselves, and rarely interacted with others.

Investigations are ongoing.
