Elderly woman arrested over freak vehicular accident that left elderly neighbour dead

A freak accident at a carpark in Bukit Panjang left an elderly woman dead and another elderly woman in handcuffs yesterday morning, when the latter rammed her car violently into the former during a disastrous parking attempt.

Shin Min Daily News reports that the 69-year-old driver had been returning home after dropping off her grandson at school, and was trying to reverse her car into a parking lot but accidentally stepped on the accelerator hard.

The black car lurched forward, ramming into the 65-year-old victim and slamming into a barricade before rolling down a small slope. The victim, who was making her way home from the market, was dragged along with the car.

She was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics, just two blocks away from her flat. Police have since arrested the senior citizen behind the wheel, and could be charged for causing death by negligent act.

According to The New Paper, family members and relatives at the scene of the accident were supremely distraught at the sudden turn of events.
