It’s a happy ending for 70-year-old petrol pump attendant Tan Soy Kiang, who made headlines in February for being swindled out of $400,000 of his hard-earned money by two unscrupulous conwomen.

His plight prompted a nationwide outcry and a crowdfunding project to raise funds for Tan, which quickly raised US$49,222 in total on Indiegogo, attracting donors from as far as Hong Kong, Australia and the United States.

Last Saturday, the man behind the crowdfunding campaign, Dan Chen, handed Tan a cheque for $63,000, The New Paper reports.

The money will go into Tan’s savings account and will be spent on his medical bills.

The elderly man was forced to work two jobs to pay off a “debt” he allegedly owed the government — a con fabricated by two women who took his CPF savings and monthly salary over the last 15 years.
