Singapore restaurants can hold our own alright.
Eight of them have made it to the list of Asia’s Top 50, which was announced in an awards ceremony held at Capella Singapore yesterday.
Organised by Restaurant magazine, which is also responsible for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, the results reflect the opinions and experiences of over 900 industry experts.
Cuisines offered at the eight Singapore restaurants vary from European to Japanese, and the styles are anywhere from modern to classic.
Restaurant Andre is the highest-ranked Singapore entry, coming in sixth. Chef-patron Andre Chiang blends art and philosophy in his approach, applying what he calls ‘octaphilosophy’ to his unique Southern French nouvelle cuisine. The term refers to the eight key characteristics of his gastronomy — unique, texture, memory, pure, terroir, salt, south, and artisan.
Thailand garnered two out of the top three spots, with Nahm, which serves classic Thai dishes, in first place and Gaggan, which serves Indian cuisine with an ultra-modern twist, in third spot.
Sandwiched between them is Narisawa from Japan, which seamlessly blends French techniques with Japanese ingredients.
Here’s a list of all eight Singapore restaurants which made it to the top 50:
