A group of Indonesians were arrested around 1.30am on Tuesday at the Woodlands Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex after they were found to have kept images related to the Islamic State.
According to Bernama‘s source, the eight were deported by the Federal Police (Bukit Aman) Special Branch’s Counter Terrorism Unit, which sent them off to Batam by ferry. They had attempted to enter Singapore via Johor.
Bernama reports that one of them was found keeping pictures depicting Islamic State militancy on his phone — including one of a bomb made with a shoe.
Singapore authorities placed the group under the No Time Limit prohibited entry status before handing them over to Malaysian police. They were detained from 2.30am till 9am, and Malaysian authorities found that the main suspect had obtained the concerning images from a Whatsapp group.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority has yet to make any statement regarding the troubling matter.
