If you’d attended the final day of the Singapore International Jazz Festival (SingJazz) on March 2, you would’ve been one of the fans disappointed by its closing performance featuring Earth, Wind & Fire Experience.
The plug was pulled on their show at around midnight, triggering a series of bewildered and angry posts on Facebook and Twitter, some of which were targeted at SingJazz management Orbis Festival Productions.
Orbis issued an official statement today about the incident:
We wanted to apologize that the Earth Wind and Fire Experience performance had to be shortened due to entertainment license regulations in place to respect the needs of the residents in the area. Though we did try our very best to finish off before the midnight hour, the palpable excitement of the crowd combined with the fantastic magic of the performers, caused us to unfortunately miss the deadline! We thank all jazz fans for their amazing support throughout this vibrant inaugural Singapore International Jazz Festival, and we look forward to bringing you a bigger, better and even more exciting show next year!
The way it ended might’ve left much to be desired, but judging from professional reviews and general feedback from the local music community, SingJazz 2014 was a bona fide success.
One user asked that the festival return in the near future on the organiser’s apologetic Facebook statement, while others gushed about performances by Allen Stone, Gregory Porter and Natalie Cole on Twitter via #singjazz and #singjazz14.
