If there’s one thing this Finnish tourist learned during his unexpectedly extended stay in Singapore, you don’t fuck with the cops here.
35-year-old sales manager Antti Tapio Peltomaki has been sentenced to a month in jail slapping a policeman who was trying to help him, The Straits Times reports.
The tourist had been found lying in a back alley near Fragrance Hotel in Selegie Road in March, clad only in his underwear and drunk out of his mind.
The two policemen who found him managed to put on a raincoat on Peltomaki but in his drunken state, removed it and started becoming hostile when they asked him some questions.
As the two cops attempted to calm him down, the Finn suddenly slapped one of them, a 21-year-old national serviceman. The officers had no choice but to arrest him.
In court, Peltomaki pleaded guilty and expressed his shame over his actions, and committed the offence at the spur of the moment. He also offered to pay a compensation of $1,000 to the Police Compensation Fund.
He could have been jailed for seven years, fined, and caned. Lesson learnt; don’t be a drunken asshole.
