Over the weekend, one cabbie firmly and steadily navigated the tricky waters of two drunk men hijacking his taxi when he stopped along the side of the road to pick up a mother and daughter duo.
His dash cam footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, started with two young Caucasian men risking their lives to stand in the middle of East Coast Road and wait for a cab. Even though the driver had intended to take the two women as his passengers, the dudes rushed over and boarded the vehicle without hesitation.
According to the time-stamp on the video, the incident occurred around 8:45pm on Saturday.
Slurring their words, they demanded the cabbie to take them to the Caribbean at Keppel Bay condo. Being the man of integrity he was, the driver earnestly insisted that the ladies had flagged down his taxi first. Even their attempt at bribery failed, as he rejected their extra $10 and responded to their declaration that “we’ll just sit here forever, man” with a warning that he would call the cops.
After telling the cabbie that he missed the chance at taking their $30 cab ride, to which the stand-up driver said “I don’t need the money”, the pair finally gave up with a final “don’t worry about it, man” when he reached for his phone to call the police.
Just as they got out, another taxi swerved towards the pavement and picked them up while the cabbie drove off with the two ladies. Guess everyone got what they wanted.
