The past couple of days saw social media all abuzz with footage of a driver recklessly testing out the speed of his Nissan GT-R sports car at an open-space carpark last Saturday.
Naturally, it ended how anyone would have expected— badly. Speeding down a straight road in the vicinity of Leisure Park Kallang, the Nissan driver failed to brake in time before crashing hard into the side of a Toyota sedan.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles were severely damaged, while the driver of the Toyota — a 65-year-old — reportedly sustained injuries to his ribs.
Days after the footage release, police have confirmed that they’ve nabbed the foolhardy Nissan driver: An 18-year-old man. He was arrested yesterday for his suspected involvement in a case of dangerous driving and taking part in an unauthorised speed trial.
His matte-black (and now unsightly) sports car was impounded by the Traffic Police, and his driving license was suspended with immediate effect.

Should he be convicted for the unauthorised speed trial, he could face up to six months in prison and a fine of $2,000, with heavier penalties if it was his second or subsequent offence. That’s not including the punishment for dangerous driving, which will land him up to $3,000 in fines and a year in jail — or more if it’s not his first time.
