Rarely do Singaporeans experience earthquakes first-hand, so when they do get a little tremor under their feet it’s only natural to bolt outside.
Around 100 occupants of buildings along Bukit Timah Road left their premises after feeling tremors around 2pm and assembled in a nearby field, Shin Min Daily News reports. The shaky ground was attributed to the nearby construction of the Downtown Line 2.
They’ve actually been experiencing mild vibrations in recent days, but the trembling on Monday was especially concerning — glass doors and air conditioner vents had been shaking non-stop.
The Land Transport Authority however explained to The Straits Times that reinstatement works for Rochor Canal involve machinery that produce little tremors in the ground.
The anxious occupants assembled in the for about half and hour before dispersing. Construction works are expected to be completed before November, and 12 stations of the Downtown Line will officially be open for use on Dec 27.
