Just hours into the first day of official operations for the Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) on Saturday, train services were hit by delays due to a defective train and the activation of the emergency communication button by a passenger.

In a statement, SBS Transit said that the defective train was “withdrawn from service” at Tampines West Station, which resulted in a delay of about five minutes. After that, a passenger hit the emergency communication button on another train that was approaching Tampines East Station, and this contributed to a delay of 15 minutes.

The transport operator said it was investigating the cause of the train fault.

Of course, commuters took to social media to complain report on the train disruption. Around 2pm, delays were said to be experienced at stations such as Tan Kah Kee, Sixth Avenue, Tampines, and Bedok North.

If you recall, the DTL3 had already faced delays during its open house one week ago. But hey, perhaps the free rides across the entire Downtown Line over the opening weekend made up for the hiccups in the system.

Anyway, if you’d like to keep tabs on train breakdowns, check out the community-driven alternatives to SMRT’s and SBS Transit’s official social media pages.
