The latest fake news story to emerge in Singapore was an online “breaking news” article by a website called States News, which claimed that beloved local musician Stefanie Sun died on Tuesday from injuries sustained during her concert in New York City, when a large stage prop fell on her and she ended up being taken to the hospital.
Obviously, none of that is true. Sun is very much alive and well, as seen by her recent updates on social media yesterday. She sent out a tweet to debunk the rumor and wished her fans a happy Mid-Autumn Festival on Facebook.
Oi what’s going on. I’m alive.

Besides getting that critical piece of information wrong, States News also claimed that Sun “died at age 36”, even though she’s 39 this year. Fact check much?
Anyway, if you need more evidence that she’s alive, Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News got in touch with Sun’s rep, who said the story is not to be trusted, as the singer is in good health. What’s more, she’s not even out of the country — Sun is currently in Singapore prepping for an album launch in November.
The moral of the story? Don’t trust fake news.
