Dog jumps to death from 9th-floor flat in Bukit Panjang

Residents in the estate near Block 480 along Segar Road in Bukit Panjang were greeted by dog howls and urgent barking late Wednesday night. A glance outside and they saw why the canines at the HDB block were so distressed — a dog was dying on the ground floor.

The New Paper reported that the dark brown dog — believed to be a Labrador cross — had fallen to its death from a flat at Block 480. A resident speaking to the paper mentioned that she heard “loud cracking noises” before hearing soft whimpering sounds coming from the foot of the block. The whimpering went on for about five minutes before it stopped, and that’s when the other dogs in the block started barking.

A couple in their late 20s — believed to be the dog’s owners — were seen crying and grieving over the corpse. It was overheard that the dog apparently jumped down from their flat on the ninth floor when they forgot to shut the windows.

The Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore confirmed that they found no evidence of the dog being thrown from height.

Singapore Dogs president Ricky Yeo, however, said it was unlikely that the breed would climb or leap out of a window — unless it was in a state of extreme panic.
