Cold callers begone!

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) has announced that customers who don’t want their phones to receive telemarketing messages can now register their telephone numbers with the Do Not Call (DNC) Registry at no cost.

You can register their phone number via SMS, toll-free phone number or at the DNC Registry’s website. Upon registration, you can get your phone numbers included in any or all of the three DNC registers — such as voice calls, text messages and faxes.

Those who register from now till Jul. 2, 2014 may still receive the messages for up to two months after registration. Subsequently, those who register after July 2, 2014 may still receive messages for one month.

The buffer time is for organisatons to familiarise themselves with the registry’s requirements.

Consumers should also take note that while their registrations do not expire, surveys and customer service are excluded from the scope of DNC Registry and may still continue sending messages to them.

Those who do not wish to be on the registry’s list anymore can de-register at any time.
