Distribution of anti-AHPETC by PAP activists not considered an offence: Police

Activists from the People’s Action Party (PAP) went around the estates of Aljunied GRC to spread flyers urging for residents to question their town council’s leaders — a political smear campaign against their opposition, the Worker’s Party (WP).

Not everyone’s too pleased about it though. Residents and netizens have questioned if their distribution of flyers — accusing the WP-run Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council of improper governance and other things — constitute an offence, considering that the distribution of anti-PAP flyers in 2010 was classified as an offence under the Sedition Act.

The police however stated that the anti-WP flyers distributed by the PAP activists is not considered an offence, TODAY reports.

Their statement goes on to say that the police have consulted with the Attorney-General’s Chambers on the police report made regarding the distribution of flyers — of which they found to be totally lawful.
