Disappointed Cafe Fest patrons reject compensation offer

The organisers of the recent Cafe Fest Singapore – who came under fire for failing to deliver promises of passholder exclusivity – have issued an offer of compensation to unhappy patrons.

However, it seems that the reimbursement they’ve come up with are not sitting well with the customers.

According to a post on the Cafe Fest Singapore Facebook page, pass holders are to be settled with cafe vouchers that can be used at six cafes, valid only for the month of October. Disgruntled customers will have to collect their passes from the organisers from a central pick-up location over this weekend, and they will have the option to select which cafe vouchers they would like to receive, limited to a single voucher per cafe— but it will operate on a first come, first served basis.

Patrons have replied angrily to the post, calling the compensation a “joke” and accusing the festival organisers as scammers. Some have already lodged complaints to the Consumers Association of Singapore, while others call for electronic vouchers instead of physical ones to avoid incurring further travel costs. A common train of thought persists;  all would prefer cash reimbursements instead of vouchers.

The organisers elaborated that full refunds are not possible as the bulk of the revenue from ticket sales were already used to pay off the festival expenditure, and that they did “not take a cut from the sales made”.

Ironically, the compensation goes against the reason why Cafe Fest was set up in the first place. “The purpose of Cafe Fest is to enjoy the food and coffee without having to travel around Singapore. Now we gotta travel around to utilize ONE voucher at ONE cafe.” a netizen notes.
