It’s been a depressing time for Samsung. To be honest, they’ve been making great gains in the smartphone wars of recent years, producing devices that’ve received more critical acclaim in every iteration.
That is, until the Galaxy Note 7. Initially lauded as one of Samsung’s most advanced phones ever, the hype died down quickly after reports emerged about them catching fire spontaneously. A product recall was made, but Samsung’s crisis went deeper when replacement devices proved to be as unsafe as the original iterations. Not knowing how to fix it, the Korean tech giant threw in the towel and halted all production and distribution of the Note 7. RIP.
Another nail in Samsung’s coffin got hammered this week in the form of official shunning by several airlines globally. In the USA, it’s now a federal crime to bring the Note 7 onto flights. Singapore Airlines (SIA) completely prohibited the smartphone onboard their planes in any way. Major Australian airlines like Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Tiger similarly banned the Note 7 on their flights due to ‘potential fire hazard’. The list of other airlines banishing Samsung’s latest flagship phone goes on.
All that said, we find it real odd that Samsung’s gigantic ad of the Galaxy Note 7 remains plastered at Changi Airport, of all places. Here it is looming large over the airport immigration counter last weekend:
Looks like the advertisement’s gonna stay up there for a little bit longer — according to Changi Airport Group, it’s in the progress of being refreshed. A new ad will be put up by Samsung next week, and we’re fairly certain that they’re no longer in the business of promoting tech that’s burnt down a jeep and a garage.
