DBS and Singtel to offer 2 weeks paternity leave by 2016

This a welcome development in a country infamous for its work-life imbalance.

Two private companies in Singapore have announced that they will start offering two-week paternity leave to its employees starting Jan 1, 2016.

DBS and Singtel are taking the cue from PM Lee Hsien Loong, who announced at the recent National Day rally that government will be paying for an additional week of paternity leave (there is already a one-week PL in place), to be implemented by companies on a voluntary basis.

“The Government will reimburse employers who voluntarily agree to provide up to one additional week of leave (capped at $2,500 per week including CPF contributions),” according to the government-run HeyBaby.SG website.
