One fact of life is that if you slap salted egg flavor onto something, you can trust Singaporeans to get irrationally hyped about it.
Salted egg deep-fried lizards? Eh, not so much.
Such is this unfortunate discovery apparently made by an Irvins Salted Egg snack fan based in Thailand. Jane Holloway expressed her utmost horror at a stiff, crispy lizard allegedly found in a bag of salted egg fish skin last Friday. According to Holloway’s post, her brother and mother had already eaten half the contents of the pack before discovering that not all fish skins are made equal. Pictures of the rigid, salted-egg coated corpse of what appears to be a common house gecko were shared. Hold on to your appetites.
Certainly spins that “Dangerously Addictive” tagline in a whole new light. In the comments section, Holloway assured that the unexpected treat was found inside a sealed packet and that an angry email has already been sent. She even got a scolding from her family for buying Irvins Salted Egg snacks for them.
Irvins has yet to publicly issue a statement about the post, nor has the company replied to our queries. In any case, the post has certainly scared folks from purchasing Irvins Salted Egg snacks.
