Dreaming of Singapore turning into a cycle-friendly city? Perhaps the debut of oBike here will take you one step closer to your vision. The bicycle sharing platform, touted as Singapore’s first station-less one, has wheeled out single-gear bikes in easily recognisable white and orange throughout the north, west and central areas.
So if you live or work around MRT stations like Boon Lay, Jurong East, Redhill or Woodlands, you can rent a bike (it costs $1/half hour) to get to your destination. And the most convenient part is, you don’t have to rent or return the bike at proper docking stations — any public bicycle parking space works. You can just track the parking and bicycle locations on oBike’s map, thanks to a nifty thing called GPS.
To kick off your cycling days, download the app on the Apple App Store or Google Play, sign up and lock in a deposit of $50 for the first use. Then search for any available bike close to your location and reserve one. When you find it, scan the QR code on the bike with your phone to unlock it. After you’ve reached your destination, manually lock it and leave it at a public parking area for the next user.
Now that wasn’t too complicated, was it? Visit oBike’s website for more info.
