‘Crocodile’ that halted water sports activities in Marina Reservoir most likely a monitor lizard

On Saturday morning, water sports activities in Marina Reservoir were suspended after a ‘crocodile’ sighting happened near the Sports Hub. In case you’re wondering why ‘crocodile’ is in quotation marks, that’s because national water agency PUB announced that preliminary findings showed the creature was most likely a monitor lizard.

But just to be safe — it’s better than being sorry — the Singapore Dragon Boat Association, the Sports Hub and the People’s Association all ceased their programmes at the Marina Reservoir for the weekend. PUB is investigating and patrolling the waters to find the creature.

If you are continuing with activities in the reservoir, PUB’s warning to you is to be careful and not immerse yourself in the water. And should you spot the creature, don’t go anywhere near it.
