Covert traffic police officers on stealth bikes blending with traffic to catch reckless motorcyclists

Gone are the days when you thought you could easily spot a traffic police officer and speed off. The Traffic Police launched a brigade of undercover motorcycle officers last month, made out of covert officers dressed in black jackets (with the white TP uniform underneath) riding black 900cc ‘stealth bikes’ to blend in with regular traffic. So you really won’t see them coming until their lights and sirens go off — and by then, it’s too late.

This Special Operations Team initiative was established to help the police nab road offenders, especially reckless motorcyclists. Already, more than 700 violations (including using a mobile phone while riding) have surfaced in this first month alone.

According to statistics from the TP, 4,875 motorcyclists and pillion riders were injured last year, in a five percent increase from 2014. That same group was also responsible for almost half of all road accident deaths last year — 72 out of 152, said The Straits Times.

Now that the TP are upping their efforts to apprehend any errant motorists and motorcyclists, looks like we all gotta behave ourselves on the roads, ’cause you never know who’s watching.
