Coroners reveal that headless woman found floating in canal was murdered by her husband

In the morning of Dec 12 back in 2013, the authorities uncovered a grisly find floating in Whampoa River — a headless body of a women wrapped in black trash bags. The hands were severed at the wrists, with her legs exposed.

27-year-old Gursharan Singh has since been sentenced to 30 months in jail in April for his part in the gruesome butchery — he helped carry the body to the canal near Mcnair Road.

In court on Tuesday, it was revealed that the woman — 33-year-old Indian national Jasvinder Kaur — died at the hands of her husband, Harvinder Singh. The Straits Times reports that Harvinder had punched her during an argument and left her lying on the bed, realising only later that she was dead. He decided to put her body in a bag and dispose it in the river, employing the help of Gursharan.

At first, Gursharan was unaware of the macabre contents of the bag, but he grew suspicious later on about the weight of the bag and demanded what was inside. Harvinder then confessed about his deed.

Nonetheless, Gursharan continued to help his friend carry the bag to the canal. Harvinder told him to walk away, and disposed the body himself.

Coroners are still unable to find the exact cause of Kaur’s death as her head and hands are still no where to be found.

The next morning, the husband fled to Malaysia before travelling back to India, where he remains on the run. Harvinder has since been included inside Interpol’s wanted list.
