An app called Lompang is launching on Dec. 21.
The concept is similar to car-pooling, except you hitch a ride on a motorbike, not a car. At this point, they’re rallying for scooter owners, but might expand to include other makes in the future.
Available on iPhone and Android, the Lompang app lets you broadcast your request for a ride and, if you’re a registered rider, respond to requests with your ETA if you’re up for the job. The ride share fee gets deducted at drop-off via a cashless system.
Sounds like a really fun way to get around, though we’re not sure how the G will feel about it.
Our only quibble is the name… “Lompang?” As in the Malay word “tumpang” (listed in the Coxford Singlish Dictionary), which means to “hitch a ride”?
According to their response to name-related comments on the Facebook page, “lompang” is the ah beng version of the original word.
Hmm.
