Construction firm fined over $380k for failing to report taxes on property sale

A construction company Junling Construction & Engineering Pte Ltd and its director, Cheah Wai Fun, were both charged for not reporting the amount of Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected from the sale of a property at Woodlands Industrial Park three years ago.

Back in 2011, the company had sold the property for $1.38 million, and received $96,600 for the 7% GST on the selling price. Cheah, who was responsible for filing the GST returns as the director of the company, failed to declare the amount.

By the order of the court, Junling Construction & Engineering Pte Ltd and Cheah will have to each pay $191,268 – two times the amount of GST evaded – and a $2,000 fine for failing to account for GST.
