Winter is never coming to Singapore (at least for now, before humankind wrecks our weather patterns for good), but that’s not stopping local concept artist Sean Lee from imagining what it would be like.
The self-proclaimed photoshop warrior released his latest art series Singaporean Winter, and it is exactly as titled. Iconic local landscapes such as Toa Payoh mosaic dragon playground, the Mondrian-esque Teck Whye Avenue HDB flats, Merlion Park, Marina Bay Sands and more get depicted as snow-covered sceneries. Instead of being a winter wonderland, however, the illustrations render Singapore as undergoing a frosty nuclear winter.
If you’re wondering why Lee’s art looks so realistic, it’s because he utilizes photo bashing, a technique that involves merging photographs together with other 3D assets, textures, and layers before being digitally painted over. Lee provides some examples of the pictures he took and the result after his photoshop wizardry.
It’s not the first time Lee reimagined the city-state — back in May, he came up with a series of photos that envisages future Singapore as a liveable underwater city ala Bioshock (without the horrific gene splicing and philosophical quandaries).
