Returning to Singapore from your holiday or business trip? Remember to pay tax.

The Singapore Customs announced on Nov. 15 that all travellers should remember to promptly pay their Goods and Services Tax (GST) after returning from overseas.

This is in light of the year-end school holidays, which began last weekend.

Here are the deets: All goods brought into Singapore — new clothes, handbags, pillow cases, beauty creams, food (you get the picture) — are subjected to 7 percent GST. Travellers who spend two days or more abroad will enjoy GST relief of up to SGD600 while those who spend less than two days will receive GST relief of up to SGD150. There is no GST relief for alcohol, tobacco, petroleum and goods imported for commercial purposes. Cigarettes or other tobacco products brought in are subject to duty and GST.
