Say hello to Singapore’s latest tourist attraction — a new airport terminal.

Changi Airport’s newly constructed Terminal 4 (T4) will be hosting an open house next month to provide the public a glimpse of the new terminal before it becomes fully operational later this year.

T4 Open House, which runs from Aug 7 to 20 from 9am to 6pm each day, will be free-of-charge for both locals and tourists — but you’ll have to register for tickets online first. About 200,000 tickets will be made available in total (and a maximum of 15,000 to be issued per day).

Although no guided tours will be provided, more than 300 Changi Airport Group staff will be present to help out. Visitors can do self-guided tours via a specially-made T4 Open House mobile app that will take about 60 to 90 minutes, covering features such as Heritage Zone, kinetic art displays, an integrated duty-free shopping area – there won’t be any items to purchase, except pre-orders made through via the iShopChangi portal, and more. Visitors are also advised to bring their own water as food and beverages will not be sold, but water coolers are available.

Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) Technology will also be on display, as the terminal plans to introduce self-service technology such as facial recognition and self-tagging of baggage that visitors will be able to try themselves. This is to dispel any doubts about the new self-service technology and demonstrate its benefits and efficiency, said T4 Programme Management Office vice-president Poh Li San.

Visitors also stand to win two pairs of airline tickets daily through a lucky draw, as well as e-vouchers for Changi Airport’s retail and food and beverage outlets through in-app games at various locations and a Photo of the Day competition.

Promised to a game-changer since its groundbreaking ceremony back in 2013, T4 is said to be able to handle 16 million passengers per year, with newfangled biometric technology for facial, iris and fingerprint scanning at checkpoints. It’s currently warming up operations with over 100 trials and three live flight tests completed over the past two weeks.

During the open house, visitors can get to T4 by private car, taxi, or a free shuttle bus service from Terminal 3 (T3) running at 5-minute intervals.
