Color Run assures safety of colored powder over fears following deadly Taiwan water park blaze

Those who’ve already bought tickets to the Color Run that’ll be happening this September in Sentosa shouldn’t worry about the potential hazards of the colored powder being used in the event.

A blaze that injured over 500 people and killed one over the weekend in Taiwan’s Formosa Fun Coast Water Park was suspected to be ignited when the coloured corn starch powder used during the park’s Color Play Asia event caught fire, exploding into a fireball in midair.

Color Run organisers however have assured that the powder used during their event are different from the one used in Taiwan, and have been tested for flammability, passing the required EU standards. They’ve also insisted that they are in no way associated with the venue, organisers and equipment used in Taiwan’s Color Play Asia, and are committed to ensuring the safety of their event in Sentosa, now in its third iteration in Singapore.

“We have had zero fire-related incidents in five hundred global events with more than four million participants. We are committed to staging safe and secure events,” they stated on their Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the Singaporean who was injured during the Taiwanese water park blaze has safely returned to Singapore, reported Channel NewsAsia. Megan Loy has been conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for further treatment.

The first fatality of the tragedy — 20-year-old Lee Pei-yun — sustained 90 percent burns and was taken off the ventilator at Taichung’s Chung Shan Hospital yesterday.
