Another day, another unfortunate accident on the roads — a wrecked red Mazda that mounted a kerb and crashed into the staircase of an overhead bridge was photographed in Jurong East last Friday.
It’s an image of a typical collision that would go viral on social media, and it did. But really though, the bigger story here is how it happened — and it was all thanks to a little cockroach.
The Straits Times reported today that the 61-year-old female driver of the Mazda had been so frightened at the unexpected sight of a roach in her car that she lost control of the vehicle and crashed right into the base of the bridge’s staircase along Jurong East Central. The authorities were alerted to the scene at about 7:30am, and the driver was carted off to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital with minor injuries. No idea what happened to the roach though, but seeing as how the filthy bugs can survive nuclear explosions, it probably got away scot-free.
As far as crash-causing cockroaches go, its New Zealand cousin had a bigger body count back in 2014. Another roach was to blame for a three-car collision in the Western Bay of Plenty District when a woman got distracted by one that scurried across her dashboard before she crashed into oncoming traffic.
