Over the last two days, one plea for help for a woman whose husband passed away has been going viral on Facebook. Of course, the fact that the situation includes a massive sale for porcelain ware also helped in attracting the attention of discount-hungry Singaporeans.
On Sunday, one netizen alerted the public about a widow who was left with the family business after her husband passed on. But because the landlord requested for her to move out of the shop space by the end of March, she’s apparently clearing her stock now at low prices, starting from S$1. (Heads up to all new homeowners.)
The shop in question is Tony Teo Import & Export Pte Ltd at 49 Sims Avenue, and according to its Facebook page, it’s a small local company that has been around for 30 years, specializing in porcelain items from China.
Knowing our penchant for heavily discounted goods, it probably won’t be long before everything gets snapped up.
However, several netizens warned others about the shop using this “closing down sale” tactic for several years, with some even calling it a “scam”. Stepping in to the owner’s defense, one lady who claimed to know the couple said that the husband had actually passed away six years ago, and the shop’s lease was supposed to expire last December, but got extended to this month for the business to clear all its stock.

An article from Lianhe Zaobao dated Oct. 12 last year reiterated what the woman said about the shop owner’s husband passing away six years ago, and explained that the company had been losing money every year. So when the landlord wanted to renovate the store, the lady decided to close down the business for good and asked for an extension till the end of March.
Nevertheless, whichever way you see things, it probably can’t hurt to still check out the place for potential deals.
