Citizens urged to fly Singapore flags at funeral procession instead of displays at homes

In a burst of patriotism and devotion to the deceased statesman Lee Kuan Yew, young grassroots leaders are calling on residents to fly the Singapore flags outside their homes this Sunday on the final day of National Mourning, and the day of the national icon’s State Funeral

According to The Straits Times, they have been hoping to get the official support of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth — the department administering usage guidelines for the national flag.

However, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong has advised folks to carry them along the funeral procession route instead on Sunday, as having flags displayed across HDB blocks “may not be the right tone for the day of the state funeral”.
