Mobile virtual network operator Circles.Life, which just celebrated its first anniversary in Singapore, is really gunning hard against the three big local telcos. Its latest marketing volley moved to draw in new data-hungry customers, preying on Singaporeans’ weak spot: freebies.

Yep, Circles.Life announced today that it has launched a “try before you buy” initiative called Circles Switch to attract anyone whose post-paid contract is about to end. Potential customers will get a free SIM-only mobile line with a temporary number, which comes with 20GB of data, 100 minutes of talk time, and 20 SMSes every month until Dec 31.

According to Channel NewsAsia, this service has no “hidden costs”, so you won’t have to fret about subscription fees, registration fees, delivery charges, or SIM card costs. Plus, you can cancel the line any time before the trial period ends.

“We want people to feel the power of a Circles.Life no-contract plan over so-called ‘subsidised’ 24-month contract plans,” explained co-founder and director Rameez Ansar. “We are doing this because we are confident they will switch to a full Circles.Life plan.”

But take note that you’ll have to cancel the line by the end of the year or you’ll be automatically ported over to a full Circles.Life base plan — although at $28 for 6GB of data, 100 minutes of talk time and free caller ID, that doesn’t sound too bad.

According to TODAY, Circles.Life expressed confidence regarding taking over between three and five percent of market share — up from its current 1.4 percent — by 2019.

Looks like Singtel, StarHub, and M1 had better standby for an exodus among their customer base.
