Offering pints of beer for cheap and selling BBQ pork dishes, clearly haram Chinatown restaurant Home Taste made the grave error of putting up a sign that says they’re Halal-certified.
Desinta Arisade Halid brought attention to the erroneous signage on the Halal Cafe & Restaurants In Singapore Facebook page, uploading a photo of the Home Taste sign and her email to the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).
Since the matter came to light, MUIS has sent its officers to the eatery and will be conducting enforcement action against Home Taste, a Cantonese cuisine joint. According to the restaurant’s manager who spoke to The Straits Times, she claimed that they had no idea what the logo was (did they think it was a quality label or something?) and assured that it was all a misunderstanding. Well, at least they’ve since removed the fake Halal-certified logo.

As for the anxious, angry folks who claimed that the restaurant was misleading Muslims to dine there, we’re pretty sure that legit devotees should know to steer well away from establishments selling pork and beer, no matter how hungry they are.
