An elderly Grab driver went through the scary experience of being affronted by a rowdy gang of youths in the wee hours of the morning last Saturday outside St James Power Station.
The driver’s son posted a dash cam clip on Facebook that captured a young man jumping on the bonnet of his car without any provocation whatsoever. The 72-year-old driver had been responding to a booking at the nightlife venue when the ruffian ran in his direction and jumped onto the vehicle, stomping his feet on the windscreen and climbing up top. Some of the young man’s friends were seen reprimanding him, while others were simply amused by the antics.
The Grab driver drove off following the incident to prevent a confrontation, according to the caption that accompanied the video. Apparently, the hooligan turned hostile when the driver got out of the car to inspect the damage, according to the son who spoke to The Straits Times. One of the suspect’s friends allegedly shouted: “We apologized already, what more do you want?”
Party’s over
A police report was subsequently made about the incident and the man who jumped onto the car has since been nabbed and charged. According to a police spokesperson, a 26-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning in relation to the case.
Chee Chu Siong was today charged with committing a rash act, and if convicted, he’ll be slapped with up to six months in jail and a S$2,500 fine.
The driver’s son followed up on Facebook by thanking everyone who shared his post and assisted him in getting the word out.
“With the closure of this episode, I hope we can all put this behind us and move on.”
