On Tuesday (Apr 4), five employers — Goodmate Global, 3S Restaurant, WOW Holdings, Access Builders and the director of Infinium Robotics — were charged in court for neglecting to pay employees’ salaries. Manufacturer Goodmate Global faced the highest number of charges for salary offences at 17, while F&B company 3S Restaurant had seven charges brought against it for failing to pay salaries as well as the pay for work done on public holidays in addition to the gross rate of pay for that day.
WOW Holdings, also an F&B business, faced five charges. Construction company Access Builders had three charges against it, and the Woon Junyang, the director of Infinium Robotics, faced four charges.
The case of Ching Hwa Ming, the director of JS Environment Enterprise and Nam Hong Engineering, will be brought before the State Courts tomorrow for 30 charges for salary offences.
According to the Ministry of Manpower, employers who do not pay their employees’ salaries can be fined up to $15,000, jailed for up to six months, or both. Repeat offenders can be charged with double the penalty.
