A man was recently captured on camera allegedly assaulting police officers at Changi Airport — and of course, the videos showcasing his aggressive behaviour went viral. It is believed that the suspect is 44-year-old Australian Jason Peter Darragh, who reportedly went on a couple drunken sprees in Singapore and broke the law as a result.
Darragh faced 11 charges in court on Saturday (May 13), for three counts of using vulgar language on police officers, two counts of using criminal force on them, two counts of causing annoyance to others while intoxicated in a public space, and one count of assaulting a police officer. The other charges included using abusive words on a person, committing mischief, and being drunk and unable to take care of himself in public. Thus the ‘bogan’ reference — a derogatory slang used in Australia and New Zealand for unsophisticated people of low socio-economic status — sort of like their version of trailer park trash.
The alleged crime that was captured on camera reportedly took place at Changi Airport Terminal 2’s departure hall on Apr 20 between 12.15am and 12.30am, according to The New Paper.
Apparently, Darragh hurled a man’s mobile phone on the ground and threw vulgar insults at him. Two police officers approached him, but Darragh allegedly pushed them, made vulgar threats and hit one of them in the face.
Court documents also revealed that he got drunk around 4.50am the next day at Clarke Quay and caused annoyance in front of McGettigan’s bar. Then on Apr 26 around 12.20am, Darragh was reportedly discovered to be drunk and unable to take care of himself at an Orchard Towers restroom. At Tan Tock Seng Hospital later that night, he used vulgar insults on another policeman. Another case on May 1 around 5am at Clarke Quay saw Darragh drunk and causing annoyance to a lady at a taxi stand.
He has been offered bail of $20,000 and will return to court on Friday.
