Changi Village may finally be on its way to becoming a real recreational hub

Changi Village in the far east side of Singapore is an underrated place.

Its lush greenery and open concept mean it’s a real contender for places like Dempsey and Tanjong Pagar. The fact that most of the area is ground level and its proximity to the beach are two other things that count for its feasibility as a lifestyle destination.

But for the longest time, Changi Village was only frequented by hungry residents and tranvestites looking for a spot of work.

Recent developments look set to change that.

According to Channel NewsAsia, analysts say the recently completed Changi Cove hotel may be part of the government’s plan to develop the area into a resort and corporate retreat site.

Several colonial buildings are also currently undergoing upgrading, as is the Changi Civil Service Club, which will see its floor area tripled and a host of lifestyle outlets opening when the in the second quarter of 2014.

Of the colonial buildings, five belonging to the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) have already been tendered out and are expected to house a spa resort and restaurants.
