Changi Airport Terminal 4 to be completed by the end of the year

If you’ve been to Changi Airport recently, you might’ve noticed an almost-finished new addition to our world class airport: Terminal 4. It’s been more than two years since the building project began, and it looks like everything will be done by the end of the year. Constructed works include new roads and bridges, a 68m-high control tower, a multi-storey carpark and a bus terminus.

Terminal 4 will open in the second half of next year — according to The Straits Times — after numerous operational readiness trials have been completed and the airport systems and equipment have been tested.

New to Terminal 4 are facilities like centralised screening (instead of screening at gatehold rooms before boarding) and more self-service and automated options for check-in, bag tagging, immigration clearance and aircraft boarding. This sets it apart from the other three terminals.

Built to host up to 16 million passengers yearly, Terminal 4 (and expansion works at Terminal 1) will contribute to increasing the airport’s total capacity to 85 million passengers. The first two carriers that announced their move to the new terminal were Cathay Pacific and AirAsia.

Unfortunately, there will not be a Skytrain to link Terminal 4 to the other terminals. So anyone with a connecting flight will have to go to a transfer lounge, where they can get on board a bus to Terminal 2, then take a Skytrain to Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 from there.
