It’s been a busy year for the world’s best airport — Changi Airport has seen a record-high, with a whopping 58.7 million passengers throughout 2016, a huge leap by a margin of 5.9 percent in comparison with 2015.

According to statistics, the busiest day on record for the year was on December 23, with 202,359 passengers passing through Departure gates — and just for the month of December, approximately 5.68 million passengers were recorded.

Changi has the increase in Chinese passengers to thank, with China moving up to rank third in the airport’s largest country market. Not discounting the contributions made from other areas as well, as the North-east and South-east Asian routes formed together with the Oceania to make up 90% of growth in passenger traffic last year.

In the words of Changi Airport Group CEO Lee Seow Hiang, the airport will maintain a positive outlook for the year ahead despite “a backdrop of economic and socio-political uncertainties”, while continuing to focus on “connectivity within the region to secondary cities in Southeast Asia, China and India.”

Things are about to get even busier when Terminal 4’s construction is completed, so expect the record of 2016 to be left in the dust. Just stop shining your damn lasers at airplanes, please.
