Singapore’s Changi Airport made over $2 billion worth of retail sales in 2013, nine percent higher than the Group did in 2012.
According to Channel NewsAsia, this is a new record for the airport, which reported an increase in passenger traffic by 3.2 percent in the same year.
On a yearly basis, the amount of spending by Singaporeans — which makes up one-fifth of Changi Airport’s total sales — has gone up by 11 percent.
The biggest spenders are Chinese tourists — their expenditure comprises a quarter of all sales and is reported to have increased by 25 percent from 2012.
Cosmetics, liquor, perfumes and tobacco are products most sold at the airport.
