In 2017, Changi Airport had a record 60 million passengers traveling through its fine grounds. In 2018, the airport beat its own previous achievement with 65.6 million passenger movements and 386,000 landings and take-offs, according to a media release yesterday by Changi Airport Group (CAG).
Just from December alone, the crowd totaled 6.13 million passengers, and Dec 21 ended up being the busiest day of the entire year, with 221,155 passenger movements in 24 hours.
Its top ten routes from Singapore were regional flights, with Kuala Lumpur coming in first, followed by Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Manila. Bali was also popular at sixth spot, before Tokyo, Ho Chi Minh City, Taipei, and Sydney, with just slight changes within the list from last year.
The airport also saw three new passenger airlines coming through in 2018: Guangxi Beibu Gulf Airlines, LOT Polish, and Shandong Airlines. Plus, let’s not forget the fuss over the world’s longest flight that launched in October, with a route between Singapore and New York run by Singapore Airlines. CAG mentioned that Singapore is now directly connected to 19 cities in Europe as well, making the number a 10-year high.
We’re guessing once Jewel Changi Airport and all its buzzed-about brands and facilities finally open this year, 2019 will be yet another record-breaking accomplishment for the airport.
