Cement truck driver involved in Tampines fatal accident pleads guilty to negligence

57-year-old Munir Mohd Naim has pleaded guilty to one charge of negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, for causing the death of two young brothers in a tragic accident in Tampines last year.

The cement truck driver had driven into 13-year-old Nigel Yap and his seven-year-old brother Donavan, the latter riding pillion on the former’s bicycle, when he was turning left at the junction of Tampines Avenue 9 and Tampines Street 45.

Despite the defence arguing that Munir is “sincerely contrite” and had dropped to his knees crying when he found out the boys had died, the prosecution urged the court to impose a two-week jail term on Munir, and disqualify him from driving for five years.
