If you were ever considering to contest in the upcoming General Election as an independent candidate, be prepared to choose from only a total of 15 approved symbols to be used.
Bask in the joyful knowledge that you can choose symbols such as a whale, a rhinoceros, a lighthouse, a laptop, a ceiling fan, a sedan, and many more arbitrary emblems.

Independent candidates who are not aligning with any political party cannot create symbols that have racial or religious significance — but surely the powers that be can come up with better-designed symbols to use? They look like they’ve been lifted from clipart or something.
If picked, the approved symbols will be used during election campaigning and will also appear on the ballot paper alongside the candidates name and photo.
Currently, the only independent candidate running for the upcoming General Election would be former National Solidarity Party Secretary-General Tan Lam Siong, who’ll be running in the hotly contested seat in Potong Pasir. He’ll be going up against the incumbent People’s Action Party and the opposing Singapore People’s Party.
