UPDATE: The man has apologized and returned the device to the police station.
A coffeeshop in Compassvale is seeking help from the public to hunt a man who allegedly stole their iPad recently.
Rasa Rasa Sengkang on Wednesday posted surveillance footage of the man in red who tried to sneakily steal an iPad, that was used to take orders, from the counter when ordering drinks at 278D Compassvale Bow on April 30 at around 3:30pm.

The eatery has since made a police report after finding out hours later that one out of seven iPads they own was missing.
In the video, the man noticed the device just laying right in front of him while he was making his order. He then flipped the iPad’s case open and waited till the employees weren’t looking before taking it away to his table which was not too far away.
The coffeeshop said he left 10 minutes later.
When a comment on TikTok tried to defend the man saying it was “unintentional” and he could have mistaken the iPad for his own, the eatery posted another clip showing that the man had a book and not the device placed on his bag. It also showed that he kept both the book and the iPad in his bag later.

The outlet’s manager told The Straits Times that the last known location traced was in front of Sengkang Grand Mall at about 3:49pm. The employee who left the iPad on the counter was also asked to pay S$1,600 for the device.
The man was not a regular at the coffeeshop.
Last month, a group of diners got shamed online by more than one restaurant for not making payment despite several attempts to reach out. Two of them were later arrested after police found that they have been involved in dine-and-dash cases at five restaurants, where they owe over S$2,000 in total.
After this story was published, the man reportedly returned the iPad to the police station on May 5, Friday.
The coffeeshop has since removed the videos and said the man had apologized to them. They have also dropped the police case and the employee no longer has to pay for the device.
