One man’s quest for a very good night led him to a 24-hour coffee shop at Geylang Lorong 21, where he boldly embarked on a stealing spree, pilfering beer crates worth a total of $792. He allegedly sneaked in and out of the shop a couple times, despite the fact that there were a whopping 16 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the vicinity.

The owners first realized a crate of beer was missing around midnight on April 11, but they chalked it up to a mistake in their record-taking. Unfortunately, two more crates disappeared later that week, and even though the CCTV footage showed the culprit in action, the images weren’t clear enough to give them a proper picture of the man.

So they got themselves a new set of CCTV cameras. This time, the video showed a man wearing a grey top and jeans hauling crates of beer from the storage area on Wednesday (May 17) around 5.45am. Approximately in his 30s or 40s, the man made off with six beer crates in 40 minutes.

But apparently that was not enough for the beer thief, as he reportedly returned at 8.54am — this time with a trolley — and attempted to wheel off five more crates. However, he didn’t manage to get away with the beer this time, as an employee immediately informed the bosses, and the man fled the scene without the booze.

A police report has been filed and investigations are ongoing.
