Cats rescued from hoarder in Yishun due to get new homes soon

Last month, 39 cats were rescued from a home in Yishun, where 63-year-old Roslani Ahmad had been hoarding them since 2000. Two cats have since died — one shortly after being saved and the other put to sleep — according to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore. Roslani may be charged for mistreating the animals.

The road to recovery has been a bumpy one for the felines, reports Channel NewsAsia. They were all found malnourished and in poor health, having been squeezed into cages covered in poop and cockroaches for so long.

As of now, 16 are still being treated for various ailments under AVA’s supervision. The other 21 have been brought to clinics like AMK Veterinary Surgery, Mount Pleasant Central Vet Clinic (Whitley) and the James Tan Veterinary Centre for examinations. Several of them exhibit signs of flu, and one has symptoms of a kidney disease, but sending them to the vets means they’re closer to getting new homes.

AVA is working with the Cat Welfare Society to locate families to care for the cats. If you’d like to contribute to the animals’ medical treatments, you can donate here

Unfortunately, this isn’t the worst cat hoarding case Singapore has seen. About five years ago, 50 to 60 kittys were retrieved from Tampines in abominable conditions.
