Now that a local woman’s Facebook post about a kitty she rescued went viral over the weekend, the cat is out of the bag. Literally. (Sorry).
Yvonne Teoh and her family had parked their car in their usual spot in a sheltered carpark when they heard a meow in the vicinity. When they couldn’t see the cat to go along with the noise, her husband started looking around extensively.
“After searching around, he pointed at the fire riser door and told me the cat might be inside,” Teoh recounted in her post.
Sure enough, when they opened the door they were shocked at what they uncovered. “To our horror, he found a carton box!”

The family opened the box and discovered a zipped-up shopping bag. Within the bag was the source of the desperate meowing.
The cat was freed, and the family was relieved to see that it was still alive and well. But alongside that feeling of relief was absolute disbelief that someone would so cruelly lock up a defenseless animal.

“We were thinking wth?! Who will put cat inside the door?!” wrote Teoh. “Who would put a cat inside a carton box with the door tightly closed?!?!”
Photos of the spontaneous rescue operation show the enclosed space where they found the cat as well as the plastic shopping bag he was trapped in.
Another photo showed the cat gratefully poking its furry orange head out of the bag and walking out.

Teoh said the cat is now safe and sound and grateful to be free. She also made a report to the Singapore Cat Welfare Society for them to follow up on the case.
Teoh also included more adorable photos and a video of the happy fellow in her post, imploring others not to mistreat animals.
“Every cat deserves better and they have a life. Not for anyone to step and bully on.”
