Who would’ve thought Singapore’s clean-cut and high-profile law minister was a gym rat?

Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam is going to be beating his personal best of 105kg deadlift at the Chong Pang Fitness Fiesta 2022 on Nov. 27, and he invites everyone to come to watch.

“To encourage more people to come and watch and take part, I’ve said I’m going to try and break my personal best of 105 kilograms,” he said in a video promoting the event organized by Chong Pang Community Club.

Shanmugam is also the Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC, the People’s Action Party representative of the Chong Pang neighborhood.

The law minister said he has been training with his trainer for the past three years and have added weight training to his exercise regime for more than a year now.

He previously boasted about his weightlifting progress in August with a video showing him deadlifting 80kg to 105kg with ease.

The three-hour public event has 20 stations that welcome both adults and children for S$5 per pax.

Those participating will have to complete at least 15 stations to redeem a sports pack and are also encouraged to take part in the deadlift challenge and kettlebell exercise.

Free sports drinks will be provided.
